It's just wonderful seeing your builds evolve , pure craftsmanship and art John 🎸

Question: how do you go about sourcing the woods for your builds , do you order on line or visit a supplier to check out the woods !

Sorry for the slow reply John. Most of the wood that I buy comes from three sources.

I buy mahogany, most of my finger boards, holly veneers, and other bits from Gilmer Wood Company in Portland Oregon.

https://www.gilmerwood.com/

I buy African Limba (Korina) from African Figured Wood in Decatur, Georgia.

http://www.africanfiguredwood.com/

And then there are a couple of ebay store that I troll.

I'm usually at their whim, but I've done well be them so far.

Today was warm enough to get the last clear coats on. By the time I'm done with my medical leave, I should be able to wet-sand and polish this. Then hopefully... It will be assembled by Chrimbo. I'd like to come over to jolly ol' blightey for a visit between chrimbo and New Year's.

Now, to sit and watch the paint dry.

Thanks John. I should have also added that all the sources post petty good photos of each board. This proves very helpful when buying neck blanks. It gives me the ability to scrutinize several boards, and pick the best to suit my needs.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The Special is all done, and on it's way to England. BQ was here Sunday, and spent two hours playing it before he would put it down.

Here's some finished shots out in the sun.

The action is real low, even with a wound "G" string. The total neck bow is less than .007". The fret height is about .038", or just under 1 mm.

And, the string height is about .047" (3/64").

Now to finish up the Junior. I promised to try to deliver it the first weekend in February.

Great pics of the finished beast John! Did I ask you this before?  What kind of wraparound is that?
I'm back - am I the same person or just a clone of myself?

Thanks guys.  ;D

Dave, it is just the cheapo Allparts wrap around. Brendan plays with a wound G, and they are the only source that still offers that option.

Ha - you should have said - I've got a "wound g" wraparound in a drawer somewhere.  I think it came from Stew Mac several years ago!

I managed to finally finish the Junior. I've been stuck in a hotel the past two months near our regional office due to "light duty" assignments.

Here's a few shots of the wet sanding and fret dressing.

And, complete...

With it's siblings...

Just stunning John , I now find myself rocking back and forth wringing my hands at the same time , having been taken over by an uncontrollable G.A.S

Here are a couple of more shots. Both guitars have now been used for tracks on the new Divisionists record. I can't wait to hear the finished record.

Here's a little video that I did before visiting London.
