Metal Evolution: The Series

I have just fininshed watching this docu-series and what a DVD! For those of you interested in the roots and progression of metal, this is a must.
It follows on from Metal: A Headbangers Journey, in which Sam Dunn an anthropologist plans out a large "family tree" of metals sub genres. Metal Evolution is a more in depth look at some of the more popularised genres totalling eleven in total. These are:
1 - Pre-history of Metal
2 - Early Metal U.S.
3 - Early Metal U.K.
4 - New Wave of British Heavy Metal
5 - Glam Metal
6 - Thrash Metal
7 - Grunge
8 - Nu Metal
9 - Shock Rock
10 - Power Metal
11 - Progressive Metal

It features many interviews with an insane amount of artists from across all eras. Some of which are no longer with us (r.i.p. Dio and John Lord). The presenter, Sam Dunn is very passionate about what he is doing, not just a host paid to interview people, this is to go towards his phd if I remember correctly.

I have learnt a lot from this DVD and also picked up on a few bands and songs I was not aware of previously, a real eye opener for me and a highly recommended watch for anyone else. Especially if you are into metal even the slightest  ;D.
