My Son & His Wife (first album release)

  • My son is a guitar player too.  I've been supportive of his playing.  He has a lot of my old gear.  He got married almost two years ago.  He and his wife play as a duet and write some good songs I believe.  May not be for everyone but I like them.

They just put out a "name your own price" album.  Thought I'd drop it hear.

Listen if you like ... I even play a short lead part on one cut ... Wakeful Sorrow.  But all the cuts are different.  I just think it's cool that they did this.

  • Hopefully, you guys don't think I'm trying to "sell" the album.  You can listen to it and even download it for free since it's "name your own price".  I just think it's cool what independent musicians can do now to get their music out.

I used to record songs at home, make CDs and just give them away to those interested.  This seems a better way. Not sure what it costs an artist to do it.  I need to ask my son about that.  But it looks pro to me.

  • I think that not only is it a very fine effort, but that like many here, I'd feel uncomfortable downloading it for Free as it were. Time, Effort and a great many other things besides have gone into the whole process of producing this album and perhaps there should be some reward for their works? ;)

  • Agreed.  But they made the choice to put it out as a "name your own price".  I paid them $15 myself.  I do think it's good.  But the point I was trying to make was that I wasn't trying to shill for the album.  The cool thing is anyone can listen to each song in it's entirety if they like.  That was their decision.  You're right though - they spent a lot of time on it.  I just think they are happy for others to hear it.  If they make some money off it that's cool too.  But everyone can try before they buy or buy it cheap or pass.  Pretty cool actually.

  • Hi Ken

I had a listen to this and enjoyed it a lot.  Your daughter in law has an excellent voice and I liked the slightly jazzy tinge to the whole feel of the recordings.

I have admired your guitar playing before on clips you have put here (and ETSG I think), it's very effective on Wakeful Sorrow.

Very impressed - it deserves to do well!

  • Thanks for giving it a listen David.  The duo does some really cool jazz covers, as well.  I think they have a lot of fun doing it.

  • I also just found out that Rebekah painted all the artwork herself.  Each song has it's own artwork plus the album art.  That alone is pretty impressive.

  • Wow - the art work is really well matched to the songs too.

  • Yeah, I think it's pretty cool.  I got to play a few tunes in a small show about two weeks ago ... played 4 numbers.  I was unexpectedly very nervous ... I guess I didn't want to mess up their performance.  Never worried as much about messing up my own.  :)
