So Johnny, Session amps were a really nicely designed and made solid state product. Lately the man behind the brand has been producing a chassis-only amp that is a straight swop physically for a blues junior and intended to be an upgrade on the fender product. The amp in the pictures is my Christmas present!
I have taken the fender innards out of my blues junior and put the clone in its place.
I gave it a quick blast once I'd done it and the results are great - warm and open with a sweet sounding crunch without much knob twiddling at all.
This Saturday, I am due to record a CD in a local studio with the Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. I am 90% convinced that this is the amp I'll take.
Next step will be to acquire a cabinet, speaker and reverb tank from Award-Session once funds permit. Then I'll put the new amp with the new bits and return the fender innards to the fender cab.
As I've been mucking about trying the new amp firstly through a Marshall cab and then through the fender speaker, I'm starting to appreciate why people say the blues junior is limited by the relatively cheap standard speaker. Hmmmmm.........
