The Gibson mini tuner system
« on: February 10, 2015, 10:46:34 PM »
It seems like Gibson are hell-bent on promoting this system and most new Gibsons appear to have it as standard.  I get the impression they are doing this in the face of some consumer resistance - presumably they are banking  on people learning to love it eventually?

Anyway, I got to wondering......

Are they only on Gibsons or do any other makers offer them?
Are they on basses?  Acoustics?

I personally think that on a guitar its a solution for a problem that doesn't exist - a guitar isn't that hard to tune surely?

However what about a piano?  Lots of strings and a very subtle and subjective art to tuning one - couldn't the system be put to better use on a piano?  Maybe in conjunction with some software?
I'm back - am I the same person or just a clone of myself?

Quite an interesting interview with Gibson's R&D Guy who talks about the rationale behind many of the "changes" for the 2015 Range

If you lend someone ?20 and never see that person again, it was probably well worth it.
