Greatest Guitarist???
« on: March 09, 2015, 09:12:27 AM »
Since starting to play the guitar I have looked into famous players over the years.

Players such as Iommi, Blakemore, Hendrix, May and also some newer players like Satriani.

So, who has influenced your playing and who do you think is the greatest player?
I can't play a guitar, without my guitar string "twang"

My biggest influences were primarily Acoustic Guitarists, such as Gordon Giltrap, John Renbourne, Bert Yansch and Davy Graham.
As far as Electric Players, there are 3 whose styles have really impacted. Andy Powell, Ted Turner and Laurie Wisefield, obviously players such as Clapton, Beck, Rory Gallagher all have their places in my style I suppose, but the Wildcard would be Chris Rea. His slide playing is sublime! :D

Best Guitarist? There isn't any just one.  ;D ;D ;D

If you lend someone ?20 and never see that person again, it was probably well worth it.

"Best" is difficult to agree on, even with myself!  Here are some favourites in no particular order:

Wes Montgomery
Mark Knopfler
Albert Lee
Mick Green
Nile Rodgers
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Keith Richards
Chuck Berry
T-Bone Walker

I'd probably give you  a different list on a different day!

Influences?  Who knows.

All of the above maybe?  Or none?  I am a competent player I reckon, but I don't think my skills or style are particularly distinctive. :)

I'm back - am I the same person or just a clone of myself?
